Final Grades

On webct, there is a column that indicates your "final course score".  This is the weighted score for the course, with  homeworks, challenges, and exams given weightings of 40%, 30%, and 30%, respectively.  Homeworks 1-6 are weighted 1, 1, 1.5, 1.5, 2, and 2, as explained in class.  The midterm and final will each have equal weighting.  The 5 challenges also have equal weighting, and the lowest challenge score is dropped.

Final grades have been posted on webct.  Based on the class curve, the grade cut offs are as follows:
A+

 86.00-87.99
B+
 83.00-85.99
B
 77.00-82.99
B-
 74.00-76.99
C+
 72.00-73.99
C
 66.00-71.99
C-
 63.00-65.99
D+
 58.00-62.99

If a student was within .50 points of the cut off, we gave a student the benefit of the doubt based on extra credit work the student had done, the student's participation in class and recitation, and the student's improvement over the semester.  Note that because we had 35 students with scores above 90.00, there wasn't a real justification for grading on a curve, but we did anyhow.  Consequently, instead of the standard 90 points required for an A, the cut off was at 86; instead of 80 points for a B, the cut off was 74; instead of 70 points for a C, the cut off was 63.
