Nemeth Receives Telluride Tech Festival Award

August 2004

Brown and Nemeth

Scott Brown, Director of the Telluride Tech Festival, presented the Festival Award for the Fifth Annual Tech Festival to Computer Science Associate Professor Emerita Evi Nemeth on August 14, 2004. The award recognizes Evi's many contributions to system administration, infrastructure measurement, and cryptography. Past honorees include such luminaries as Tim Berners-Lee, Vinton Cerf, and Murray Gell-Mann.

Nemeth is well-known in technology circles as the matriarch of system administration and technology infrastructure measurement. Previously, she has been named as one of the "Top 25 Women on the Web," and has been published over 20 times. She is best known in mathematical circles for originally identifying inadequacies in the "Diffie-Hellman trap," the basis for a large portion of modern network cryptography. She is also co-author of the best-selling UNIX System Administration Handbook (Prentice Hall, 2000) and Linux Administration Handbook (Prentice Hall, 2002).

Held each year in Telluride, Colorado, the Telluride Technology Festival is a "Celebration of the Past, Present and Future of Technology." The 2004 festival was held August 13-15.
