Lewis on High-Tech Work Force Panel

Department Chair, Clayton Lewis, recently served on an Internet Chamber of Commerce panel on "Nurturing Colorado's High-tech Workforce", chaired by Rocky Mountain News columnist Rob Reuteman. In addition to Professor Lewis, panelists included Chris James, senior director of Sun Microsystems Worldwide Education Consulting Services, Professor D. Margaret "Midge" Cozzens, vice president and chief academic officer for the Colorado Institute of Technology, and Professor Stephen Haag, chairman of the Information Technology and Electronic Commerce Department at the Daniels College of Business, University of Denver.

Questions asked of the panel included

  • What role can higher education play in creating a larger technology work force in Colorado?

  • What are the shortfalls of higher education and where is there the most room for improvement?

  • How has the current economic situation affected the demand for tech workers?

  • What is the role of stock options today?

  • What things can we can do to increase participation in the tech world by women?

  • What is the biggest obstacle that Colorado faces in creating a larger high-tech work force?
