Professor Dirk Grunwald has won the 2006 Sullivan-Carlson Award in recognition of his innovative teaching. In the spirit of the Integrated Teaching and Learning Laboratory, the Engineering Excellence Fund gives a $1000 award annually to a teacher in the College of Engineering and Applied Science who demonstrates initiative in developing and using hands-on curriculum.

Named for ITLL co-directors Professors Jacquelyn Sullivan and Lawrence Carlson, this award gives students the chance to nominate their teachers who have shown excellence through efforts to develop and maintain curricula that improve the education of engineering students. Funding for this award comes from student fees, and the students on the Engineering Excellence Fund Committee review the nominations. The award was presented at the Fall 2006 ITLL Design Expo.

The Engineering Excellence Fund is a group of students and educators dedicated to improving undergraduate and graduate education in the College of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Colorado. The Fund finances innovative projects in engineering education, including the ITLL, the CAD computer lab, new course offerings, and new lab equipment.
