Congratulations to Professor Amer Diwan, recipient of the IBM Faculty Partnership Award!

Professor Diwan will join IBM's Jalapeño Research Group, which focuses on the area of compilers and run-time systems for Java. He will be working on understanding and improving the effectiveness of garbage collection for Java.

This work is based on research he has been doing with student Martin Hirzel. Together, they have published papers on this subject, which are available on their websites.

The goal of their research was to develop a better understanding of the garbage collector accuracy levels necessary to free up garbage objects appropriately. In this collaboration with IBM researchers, Professor Diwan will be taking his work to the next level.
