Bollinger Elected UCEC President

April 2002

Congratulations to James (Jimmy) Bollinger (Junior, Computer Science),
newly elected UCEC President!

Jimmy served this past year as the UCEC rep-at-large and co-webmaster. He is also involved in the Department's Educational Technology House and Coleman Project.

Jimmy took a moment to reflect on this past year and outline his goals as President of UCEC.

This has been an exciting year for UCEC, having one of the most successful E-Days ever. There have been a lot of ups and downs and I've learned a lot from all of them. The biggest weakness in UCEC this year was publicity. I would like to see our name getting out on more media than just posters. I think a large amount of students in engineering are aware of UCEC events, but they don't necessarily make the connection that it is a UCEC-sponsored event.

In addition to better publicity, I would like to plan more smaller events throughout the year, such as free food in the Engineering Center lobby during the evenings of big exam weeks, so students can have food while they are studying. I would also like to look into resurrecting weekly doughnut hole hour, and possibly making it whole doughnut hour with industry sponsors to come in and do demos and possibly recruit. I think this would give a much more informal atmosphere for students and industries to come into contact and socialize on a personal level rather than a professional level.

Above all though, I am excited about our officers for next year, I think we will have a very hardworking and dedicated Executive council that will be able to get a lot done.
