Bethard Receives Department of Homeland Security Dissertation Grant Award

July 2006

Graduate student Steven Bethard has recently been selected to receive a Dissertation Grant Award from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). This award is provided in recognition of Steven's successful participation in the DHS Scholarship and Fellowship Program, as well as his progress towards the completion of his doctoral degree and his potential contributions to the mission of DHS. The basis for the award comes from a review process conducted by DHS and reflects the high quality of Bethard's proposal and his capabilities in the field.

The award will be administered by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE). ORISE, a Department of Energy (DOE) institute managed by Oak Ridge Associated Universities, specializes in science education and research participation activities for DOE and other federal agencies. The award provides $10,000 for a 12-month period and is intended to cover expenses related to the completion of dissertation research.
